Frequently asked questions (FAQs)

What is a Doula?

  • A full spectrum birthworker/doula has joined a growing movement is someone who expands doula care beyond brith or postpartum in order to meet people’s needs across the full spectrum of decisions, experiences and outcomes before, during, and after pregnancy.

A doula can also be an advocate for the folks, encouraging and helping them fulfill specific desires they might have. The goal of a doula is to help you have a positive, safe, and informed experience!

  • While midwives and doulas often work together, they are not the same and work under separate scopes of practice.

    A doula can:

    • Give emotional support

    • Photograph labor + special moments following

    • Provide lactation support

    • Encourage different positions & laboring techniques

    • Support your birth plan and decisions

    • Advocate for you throughout pregnancy, labor, and postpartum

    As a doula I cannot:

    • Perform medical procedures (i.e. vaginal exams, fetal heart monitoring)

    • No decision making, ESPECIALLY medical decision making.

    • I also do not support births without a medical professional like a midwife or OB present
